I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
The above text will form the foundation for this message that has been on my mind for a long time now…
We must realize that time and chance will happen to everyone, both the unprepared and prepared, to the fainting and strong, the weak and disciplined, it’s not a question of will my time come? But “when my time comes will I be sensitive and ready ?” Yes, it is true that everyone was not born with equal opportunities and privileges (all fingers are not equal) but everyone will get at least one shot at a major breakthrough in life and this is where CRISIS becomes very important!
In our previous edition, we defined Leadership as
“The ability to create or manage change and inspire a positive response to a change in one’s personal life and others without manipulation or compulsion.”
What is Crisis?
1. A crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point
2. An unstable situation, in political, social, economic or military affairs, especially one involving an impending abrupt change
A turning point or a positive abrupt change, I guess that's what we all desire?
Leadership and Crisis
Every true leader is known by their compelling vision to advance a course and a zealous passion usually characterizes this passion in order to manifest the physical equivalent of this mental picture (vision) they carry. They are known for their persistence even through the storm which is reflected in their commitment and willingness to either tame the storm or perish trying!
Because the giver of every good gift is God (James 1:17) every true vision comes from God. There always comes a time when every leader who has been building in secret is given an opportunity to be heard by the world (time and chance)
After the pandemic in 2019, the Zoom app became the 5th most downloaded app in 2020, behind Tiktok, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. This unprecedented global fame of the application was due to the wind of the Coronavirus pandemic that saturated the nations of the earth. This crisis was the launching pad for visibility for them and many other leaders who had been building their vision.
It is no wonder why the Japanese meaning for the word Crisis, 機会 (“Ki-ki”) as it is pronounced means two things: the first character means “dangerous” and the second means “opportunity”. That’s what crisis really is an opportunity wrapped in danger.
When next you feel like throwing in the towel remember that when the wind of adversity (announcement) blows it may find you unprepared and unworthy to be rewarded.
Keep building in silence, remember time and chance happens to all of us.
